Abstract

In the first quarter of 2012, shipment volume of the Greater China Notebook PC industry is anticipated to have reached 41.68 million units, witnessing an approximately 6% sequential decline instead of a 13%-15% decline as originally expected. This is mainly due to the sluggish market demand and the increasing price of HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) since the fourth quarter of 2011, and since then vendors have begun lowering their inventory levels at the distributor-end. During February and March, where the cost pressure stemming from the soaring price of HDDs began to alleviate, branded vendors began to resume strengths to pull inventories. However, most branded orders were mainly for inventory replenishments at the distributor-end instead of for fulfilling the end-market demand.
